Excerpt

‘Don’t you have anything else to say to me?’ Natasha challenged him.

Veer took the bait, ‘I don’t want to complicate our professional relationship. Let’s focus on work for now.’

How could she have given him the power to hurt her so much?

‘Yes, we must be professional, but don’t you think it is already complicated?’ Natasha got up from her chair and went to the French window. She was feeling very emotional and she didn’t want him to see that.

Now, it was Veer’s turn to feel confused.

What was happening here? Was she going to cry? Oh God! He couldn’t deal with tears.

He went to her but maintained a distance. Natasha’s hair was dishevelled and her clothes were unruly, but her smell was intoxicating. She smelled of flowers and rain and it was driving Veer crazy. She was still looking out of the window, seemingly lost in thought when he reached out to caress her hair. He didn’t realize that he had actually reached out and touched it, till she reacted. She turned around and found him standing right behind her. Her instinct was to go forward and hug him, but she didn’t know how he would react. He was so tall that Natasha’s eyes just about reached his torso. at meant she couldn’t look him in the eye. When she looked up, she saw that he was looking down at her. ere was pain, confusion and a hint of desire in his eyes. It took Natasha’s breath away.

‘So, when shall I meet you with my inputs?’ Natasha asked, getting away from him.

Coming back to his desk, Veer replied, ‘Tomorrow evening would be best. at would give you enough time to prepare. So, 5 p.m. sharp in my study.’
